Comfy Yet Classy Work Clothes

Anyone else having a hard time finding clothes in your 20s? What you wore in college won’t always fly in the ‘real world’. I remember a month after college I was cleaning out my closet and sending Delanie pictures saying ,“Is this too slutty now?” “Yes, Mel I think it is.” Off to Plato's Closet I went.

As we are growing up and transitioning out of thirsty Thursday attire, we are learning how important it is to have mixed uses for the pieces we buy! Work clothes don’t always just have to be work clothes. See!

We always put an emphasis on being comfortable in what you are wearing. Specifically we are on a mission to cultivate a closet that feels like pajamas, but looks like a million bucks! With over a year and a half in the working world under our belt, we have started to build our closets around work clothes that can transition into your everyday wear as well. How can you do the same? Easily!

Mel and Del’s tips on finding the best work clothes that you can wear for a date night, weekend brunches with the girls, and everything in-between:

  • Comfy yet classy is key! Work pants need to be comfy. We have both spent time trying on too many pairs of work appropriate pants that look cute and professional, but you can’t sit down in for more than 10 minutes without being uncomfortable. Avoid these! Spend some time walking around and sitting in the dressing room to see if a pair will actually be functional for you. Something we also look for is stretchy and wide leg pants. These look good with a blazer or blouse, but can also rock a tank tucked in or a knit sweater for after work and the weekends. MelandDelMelandDel
  • Dresses and rompers are a must. Del here: In the winter my go to is throwing on an oversized tunic or dress with some work pants for a bit of a funky, but comfy and still professional work look. The best is switching out the work pants for some jeans or tall booties for drinks after work or even just the perfect saturday night out, outfits. Mel here: Yes, you can totally wear rompers to work! Throw a long sleeve blouse under it and you are ready girlfriend! After hours switch to a jean or leather jacket. BAM! You are ready for a hot dinner date with the boo.
  • Rock some jackets girl. Blazers are great! We suggest having at least a tan and black one. But another way to switch up your style and have some pieces for outside of work: invest in a few jackets! Picture a white bomber zip up with a black blouse, black work pants, and some heels for the work day! That same bomber can double as the best happy hour jacket with the same blouse, some black jeans and the heels.  MelandDel
  • Comfy shoes go just as far as the comfy pants. Invest in a staple pair of neutral booties that you can walk all day in and still feel no need to take them off. Heels are great and look very professional, but they are not an everyday of the week sorta shoe. You need a solid pair you can wear with skinny work pants, wide leg pants, and dresses that will not make your feet kill. If you are like us, once you find that pair you buy them in every color! Our other go to pair of shoes: Flats and Mules! You can wear these with any work outfit and transition it over to a brunch outfit so easily.  MelandDelMelandDel

Moral of all of this: The clothes you buy for work don’t only need to be for work! Get creative, find the comfy staples you can pair with several different types of clothes, and rock it girlfriend! If you are into all neutrals and black is your favorite color, layer it up and embrace it. If you are a patterns and colors gal, get funky and find some cool pieces to pair with your neutrals. Show your personality while staying professional, it will stand out!
