A-line Skirts & Beautiful Mountains
Mel Here: Delanie and Becca came to visit me last weekend! Man, did we have a blast?! Its my favorite when people I love come to visit, because I get to share with them all the places I love here in my new home.
They arrived late friday night, so we turned in early because Saturday we went skiing at Keystone. Del had only been skiing once and it was my second time since middle school, so pretty much we had no clue what we were doing. Surprisingly, we didn’t have any horrible spills!
Del Here: WOW! Is all I have to say about Colorado. I have been waiting since June to go out and visit Mel, so let’s just say my excitement had been building up. Thinking about a fun weekend getaway soon? Since it was my first time in the state, I’m going to give the lowdown on some of my favorite things to do in a short two days!
SKI! Like Mel said, Keystone was our main adventure for the weekend. We woke up at 6:00 to meet some of our college friends for a day on the slopes. The drive alone made my weekend. The view is absolutely amazing. Growing up in the Midwest means seeing cornfields for miles on the highway, not mountains.
Once at Keystone, we got our gear on and headed up to the first ski lift. First question of the trip, why are ski boots so terribly hard to walk in? After a few rounds on the bunny hill, yes we had to start on the bunny hill, we finally went down our first green hill! I had two thoughts throughout my time skiing: 1. This is so fun and the view is so beautiful! 2. Why the hell am I doing this right now? My feet hurt, my legs hurt and I almost just died!
In a nutshell, go skiing in Colorado! You will not regret it, even if you have some negative feelings when you’re just starting out;)
Eat! The food was amazing. After a long day on the bunny hills, we went to Black Sky Brewery for some craft beer and pizza.
Del’s pick: Hell Awaits pizza and the Apricot Weiss. Mel’s pick: The Black Sky Pizza and the Petal to the Metal Ale. After eating all the pizza we could possibly fit in our stomachs, we fell asleep. A day of skiing is hard work!
Sundays are for brunch, right? We devoured the chicken and biscuits from Denver Biscuit Co. This place is a MUST if you are visiting or new to the area. Del’s pick: The Winona. Mel’s pick: The Franklin add an over easy egg. Everything at this restaurant is OVER THE TOP AMAZING. PSA: The wait to be seated is usually 30-45 minutes, but don’t let that stop you. There are a ton of unique coffee shops on South Broadway. We stopped in Metropolis for some killer vanilla lattes.
Explore the neighborhoods. Denver is booming with funky neighborhoods. The Santa Fe Art district is full of unique galleries and incredible places to eat. We hit up the Highlands area to see some cute boutiques. If you are ever in that area, you have to go to Rustic Thread (more to come about this boutique later)! Lastly, we strolled around Washington Park. Think a mini Central Park, but without all the tourists (well except us).
Go to outfit for the weekend: Green Evie Pleated Midi Skirt from Ella Jayms, an online boutique working to make a difference in the world. 5% of all sales at the boutique will go to local, national, and international charities. Looking cute and doing good? It’s the best combo!
Good Vibes & Get Out and Ski!
